Welcome to the Daelemans Lab!

Combining virology and cell biology to enable new therapies

We aim at understanding virus-host cell interactions to support broad antiviral therapies. We expand these insights into the wider field of cellular biology to reveal
processes important in other human diseases, such as cancer.  In this way, we aim to discover new therapeutic strategies for various human health conditions.

For our research we apply CRISPR technology in all its flavors, from single gene editing to large scale functional genomic screens.

We are part of the Research Group of Molecular Genetics and Therapeutics in Virology and Oncology (MOVION), located in the Rega Institute for Medical Research in Leuven. We are further situated within the department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation at the KU Leuven.

Rega Institute

The Rega Institute for Medical Research is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Leuven, that hosts a part of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Medicinal Chemistry division of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The institute is home to more than 300 scientists from different continents and backgrounds. It is located on the Gasthuisberg campus of the University Hospital of Leuven. Please consult the website if you want to learn more about the rich history of the Rega Institute and about the other research groups hosted by the institute.
